Green Technologies

At CEMMAC, we have long focused on reducing our environmental impact and are constantly seeking innovative solutions that support sustainability. We have invested significant financial resources in modern technologies that increase efficiency while simultaneously protecting nature. Our journey towards sustainability includes a photovoltaic power plant, ecological cement, and the revitalization of rail transport, thereby contributing to climate protection and building a green future.

Photovoltaics – A Revitalized Quarry as an Energy Source

CEMMAC invested €4.2 million into a photovoltaic power plant, which will cover 7% of its annual electricity consumption. The power plant is located in a reclaimed area of a former quarry, thereby effectively utilizing a previously unproductive space. The project commenced in 2023, with commissioning taking place in autumn 2024. In the future, we plan to expand the plant's capacity up to 17 MWp, which will require the use of additional land.

Decarbonization and Production Sustainability

As part of our environmental investments, in 2021, we invested in a modern heat exchanger that reduces NOx and CO emissions. In 2022, we were the first in Slovakia to introduce ecological cement with limestone, which reduces the emission footprint by 47% compared to traditional Portland cement. This cement utilizes domestic limestone, thereby simultaneously supporting the local economy and reducing environmental impacts.

RAJ – CO2 Savings and Ecological Transport

In 2022, we reintroduced rail transport, enabling more efficient and ecological cement dispatch. This step is part of our efforts to reduce emissions and green our production, which aligns with the European Fit for 55 programme, focusing on reducing CO2 emissions by 2030.
